How I write this
Written down so you can hold me to it.
Principles
- One name on everything. Every page is signed. There is no anonymous content here.
- Opinion is labelled as opinion. What I thought of a dish is not the same kind of claim as what a dish costs, and the two are not written the same way.
- Say what it cost me. Every material connection is disclosed before the opinion, not after it.
- No borrowed authority. I do not imply access, relationships or endorsements I do not have.
Experience versus reported fact
This distinction matters more than any other on the site, so it is worth being explicit.
First-hand means I was there and this is my recollection of one evening on one date. It is subjective, it is a single data point, and a menu that is constantly rewritten may already have moved on. Where a passage is first-hand, the page says so and carries a visit date; the single visit documented on this site took place in May 2026, paid in full and without an invitation.
Reported means I am relaying something published elsewhere — a price, a policy, a rating, a piece of history. I have checked it against a source and I name the kind of source, but I did not witness it. Prices and policies in particular are quoted as published by the operator at the time of writing and are explicitly marked as subject to change.
I do not blur these together, and I do not describe as personal experience anything I did not experience.
Sourcing and checking
Non-experiential claims come from: material published by Alchemist itself; the MICHELIN Guide; the World's 50 Best Restaurants listings; and mainstream press reporting. Where sources disagree, I say so rather than picking the tidier version. Where I could not verify something, I leave it out.
Advertising and disclosure
Advertising pays the hosting bill. Three rules govern it:
- Ads are visually and structurally distinct from what I write, and are never formatted to look like an article.
- No advertiser sees, influences or approves anything before publication.
- Any material connection affecting a page — payment, sponsorship, affiliate arrangement, a free or discounted meal, a gift — is disclosed at the top of that page, clearly and unavoidably, as US Federal Trade Commission guidance on endorsements requires.
I will not run advertising I believe is misleading, that impersonates a restaurant, or that offers access to reservations it cannot deliver. If you see an ad on this site doing either, send me a screenshot via the contact page.
Corrections
I fix errors as soon as they are confirmed. Substantive corrections are noted on the page with the date and what changed; typos are fixed silently. I do not delete a page to make a mistake disappear, and I do not quietly rewrite an opinion after the fact — if I change my mind, I say that I changed my mind and why.
To request a correction, write to info@fiftyimpressions.com with the page address, the passage and a source if you have one. I aim to reply within five business days.
Tools I use
I use ordinary research, drafting and editing tools, including software assistance, in preparing pages. They do not replace judgement: every published claim is checked by me, and my recollection of the evening is mine. Nothing here is published unread.
Complaints
If you believe a page is inaccurate or unfair, write to info@fiftyimpressions.com with the page, the specific passage and the basis of your complaint. Rights holders who consider that material should be removed should follow the process in the terms of use.
